The SAfG Connection

Private sector partners make a meaningful impact

Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAfG) understands that “changing the face of science”  takes a village. We’re a small organization with a big vision so we build and nurture partnerships with our funders that goes way beyond financial support. Their engagement in STEM shows you ways to increase your company’s impact and work collaboratively to engage thousands of girls in STEM each year.

Ideas for working with SAfG (or any nonprofit):

  • Serve as a female Role Model and visit classes

  • Build or supply STEM kits for our afterschool programs

  • Be a panelist for an SAfG Women Who Lead event

  • Provide curriculum and project ideas for STEM programs

  • Donate equipment or STEM materials needed for classes

  • Volunteer to help during in-person Family STEAM Nights

  • Serve on the Board of Directors or Advisory Board

  • Introduce us to other companies and professionals supporting STEM

  • Volunteer - weekly or throughout the year in classes

There are so many ways to support and impact STEM - The possibilities are endless! Read on to discover how our partners have made a difference.

Wareham Development

Wareham Development was one of SAfG’s first funders 8 years ago and remains our largest funder. In addition to vital financial support, Wareham makes it possible for SAfG to enjoy a wonderful office space centrally located in Berkeley (since 2016). We’re extremely lucky to have Judy Wetterer, the Director of Marketing, as a Board Member who advises SAfG on an ongoing basis and invites staff to participate and present at STEM-related conferences and events throughout the Bay Area. Wareham has also sponsored many SAfG special events, including our 5-year anniversary celebration and our Women Who Lead series.

Pixar Animation Studios

Pixar Animation Studios has supported SAfG for the past 4 years. Reema Batnagar, VP of People at Pixar, sits on SAfG’s Board and advises our strategy, programming and operations. She also presented during our Women Who Lead series: Closing the Gender Gap in Tech in March 2023. Pixar supplies Role Models from PixWIT (Women in Technology group) who are regulars in our afterschool program - some are permanent Teaching Assistants volunteering weekly for the full school year.  Pixar has co-hosted our virtual Family STEAM Night series each March for Women’s History Month and shared fun, hands-on projects virtually with 200+ children and their families. (It’s our highest attended FSN!)

For the 2023-2024 school year, PixWIT has offered SAfG animation project ideas for our 10-week Winter technology curriculum at 22 Oakland East Bay elementary schools. Bringing these real world projects into the classroom for the girls will make our program so much richer and relevant. Pixar employees regularly step up, throughout the year, to help with STEM kitting for our many programs (Afterschool, Summer Camps, Spring Break, etc.)

Grifols

Grifols is another long-time SAfG afterschool STEM education supporter. A number of Grifols employees have served as wonderful Role Models throughout the year. Many have returned multiple times! Employees contributed a relevant hands-on project for our 10-week Biology program last Fall, bringing in a real world lesson (so important for engaging girls in STEM). They’ve also helped us source hard-to-find recyclables for engineering lessons and volunteered for STEM kitting, which is always needed.

Life Science Cares

Life Science Cares, a new SAfG supporter this past year, is a membership organization with many companies who participate in volunteering and philanthropy for SAfG. Their staff works with their members to provide teams of people for STEM kitting. Life Science Cares also develops and donates STEM kits on their own for SAfG girls to take home during the winter and spring breaks (to keep STEM learning going).

Join us

We’re open to new and creative ideas and always seek to build long-lasting, mutually-beneficial partnerships - especially as we begin serving SAfG graduates this year through our Scholars Club (girls in high school). We’re actively looking for companies to provide internships, mentorships, host a career day or field trip and more.

Email me to brainstorm and start the conversation. We’d love to partner with you to make a difference and support equity in STEM. Together, we’re changing the face of science.
